HISTORY

On June 18th-20th 2003, a meeting on paediatric radiation oncology was organized in Lyon, France. Over three days, 200 radiation oncologists involved in paediatric radiation oncology shared their experiences mainly in terms of the job's technical aspects. The resulting discussions between surgeons, paediatricians and radiation oncologists were most fruitful.

The success of the congress prompted the continuation of this experiment and gave rise to the Paediatric Radiation Oncology Society. The second meeting will be held at Vancouver this year and the PROS will be born officially on September 19th 2005.
The founding members are Doctors Christian Carrie ,Carolyn Freeman , Sarah Donaldson, Roger Taylor, Patrick Thomas , Sy Woo and Karen Goddard
, with very active technical and administrative support from Thomas Garmier.

The PROS' ambition is to bring together all radiation oncologists involved in paediatric oncology, whatever the original paediatric affiliation (SIOP or COG).

The aim at the outset was to provide a forum for dialogue, with a special focus on the technical aspects, target volume delineation, quality assurance and the involvement of new technologies in paediatric radiotherapy, rather than the clinical trial reports which are often discussed in multidisciplinary congresses like SIOP or POG meetings.

PROS was officially created in Lyon on 1 March 2006 when the offical statutes were given in to the Préfecture du Rhône.

The head office is situated at the Centre Léon Bérard in Lyon.
The by-laws of the new society will shortly be sent out to all members for approval, prior to the definitive vote during the first PROS Congress which will be held in BARCELONA from 27 to 29 June 2007.
